Happy New Year!

Today is the first of January.

A day that is notable for new resolutions, a day when everyone seems to want to outdo the successes and failures of the previous year.

And here I am, starting a blog in which I intend to do just that.

I guess that I should begin with a little about me?

I’m Stu, a soon to be 32, tall, intelligent and overweight guy. After a decade of working in retail for a large tech firm, I am now barely hanging on to the bottom rung of a now part time job.

Sounds dismal doesn't it? I assure you that it is not.

2014 was a big year for me, it was all about shift. You see, I hit 30 and decided I wanted to make big changes in my life as I wasn’t happy. That year (2013) I went part-time and began a postgrad in International Public Relations.

Last year I graduated from that postgrad and have spent several months interning with a great local start-up.

Me and a proud father

but if 2013 was about horizon and 2014 was about shift 2015 will be all about change.

That is great but what is this blog about?

This blog is about me, my ideas and my thoughts.

I intend to use it to discuss the following:

Health

The last couple of years I have let my general health deteriorate and I am guessing that changing from 8hrs a day standing to 8hrs sitting hasn’t helped that.

I am currently 22st or 308lbs which is not only the heaviest that I have ever been but gives me a BMI of 35.5 or obese.

This naturally scares me and starting from today I will be making changes to my lifestyle, eating habits and of course activity levels.

Preppy Style

Those that followed my previous blogs will know that I have a fond admiration of the classic East Coast, American, WASPY, Ivy, Preppy Style.

Unfortunately, although my old blogs were incredibly popular, the long hours working, studying and interning, I had to discontinue my writing on these sites. This year however I intend to return to my writing.

Taylor Swift

Anyone that knows me knows that I have been a huge fan of Taylor since I heard Tim McGraw whilst listening to country radio driving through New York state back in 2007.

When her first album (Fearless) came out in the US, I paid to have it imported to the UK and left it on repeat for months afterwards.

Needless to say, this tradition has continued to the present day as 'Welcome to New York' from her 1989 album is currently playing on my machine.

Back in 2009, I was even lucky enough to win a phone in competition with local radio station Key 103 to see her live at an undisclosed intimate venue, promoting the UK release of the Fearless. Unfortunately, with work commitments and late notice I was crazy enough to not go, but did manage to get her following me on a now-defunct Twitter account.

Since then however I have more than made up by seeing her live in Manchester on her Fearless and Speak Now tours but had to miss her RED tour as finances were tight.

That said this July I have invested in Diamond tickets to see her at the Barclaycard British Summer Time Hyde Park event on the 27th June.

Tech

The tech industry is a real passion of mine and anyone that knows me, knows that I could write/talk about the industry in quite depth.

In the past, I have always been afraid to discuss the industry as I have been bound by an NDA. This blog however will cover as much of the industry as my current and future employers agreements will allow.
